What is a low loader?
A low loader is a trailer with its loading floor positioned as low as possible between the axles. This is the right choice for tall, heavy machinery that would exceed the legal transport height of 4 metres. The extra-low loading floor is essential for machinery with a high centre of gravity or an extremely high ride profile.
At Xiffix we regularly stock used low loaders from Broshuis, Doll, Faymonville, Goldhofer, Nooteboom and other renowned manufacturers – with detachable gooseneck, steered axles and various extension options.
Technical features
- Loading floor height in the recessed section: approx. 40–65 cm above road level
- Length of recessed section: typically 4–6 metres of flat load area
- Load capacity: depending on configuration, up to 60+ tonnes
- Available with hydraulic or pneumatic loading ramps
- Optionally extendable and/or with steered axles
- Width extension available, for example from 2,550 to 3,000 mm
When to choose a low loader?
The low loader is the solution for exceptionally tall machinery with a high centre of gravity: large excavators, wheeled loaders, heavy forestry equipment, industrial vehicles with superstructures and comparable loads. The extra-low floor in the well keeps you within the legal maximum transport height of 4 metres, even with the tallest machines.
Industries: groundworks, forestry, construction, infrastructure, industry and agriculture.
When not to choose one?
If your machine is heavy but not unusually tall, a standard low loader or semi low loader is sufficient – and less costly. The low loader is a specialist vehicle for specific applications.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a low loader and a semi low loader?
On a semi low loader, the loading floor between the axles sits at approx. 60–85 cm. On a low loader, the chassis has an additional recessed section at approx. 40–65 cm. This provides even more headroom for tall loads and delivers a lower centre of gravity, giving extra stability during transport.
What types of machinery are transported on a low loader?
Typical loads include large excavators, wheeled loaders, crawler dozers, forestry machines, earthmoving equipment with high superstructures and industrial vehicles with a high centre of gravity. In short: everything that is too tall for a standard low loader.
Can I get a low loader in an extendable version?
Yes. Several manufacturers, including Doll and Faymonville, produce extendable low loaders. This is useful when you also need to transport longer machines alongside tall ones. We regularly have extendable low loaders in stock.
Which brands of low loaders does Xiffix stock?
We trade in trailers from A-brand manufacturers including Broshuis, Doll, Faymonville, Goldhofer and Nooteboom. Every vehicle is pre-inspected and comes with a technical report. Check Xiffix.nl or contact us for current availability.
