What is an extendable flat trailer?
An extendable flat trailer – also called a teletrailer or platform trailer – has a fully flat, open loading floor with no gooseneck. The trailer is extendable, allowing the load length to be adjusted to match the cargo. Depending on the model, it extends single, double or triple to over 30 metres.
We regularly stock used extendable flat trailers from Broshuis, ES-GE, Nooteboom and Pacton – in 2- to 5-axle configurations.
Technical features
- Completely flat loading floor, no raised section or gooseneck
- Loading height: typically 115–140 cm above road level
- Load capacity: 30 to 45 tonnes
- Single, double or triple extendable (up to approx. 30 m or more)
- 2 to 5 axles, self-tracking or hydraulically steered
- Load access from front, rear and sides
When to choose an extendable flat trailer?
This is the standard choice for long, self-supporting loads without exceptional height requirements. Think steel structures, concrete beams, pipes, wind turbine tower sections and timber. The flat floor makes loading by crane or forklift straightforward.
Industries: steel, construction, energy, infrastructure, timber.
When not to choose one?
If your load has a high ride profile or consists of self-propelled equipment, the loading height of a flat trailer is too great. In that case, a (semi) low loader is the better option.
FAQ – Extendable flat trailer
How far can an extendable flat trailer extend?
Single extendable models reach approx. 20–22 metres. Double extendable models go to approx. 28–30 metres. Triple extendable versions can go even further – Nooteboom offers models extending to over 36 metres.
What is the difference between a teletrailer and a semi low loader?
A teletrailer has a fully flat loading floor without a gooseneck – the loading height is higher but the floor is completely continuous. A semi low loader has a lowered section behind the gooseneck, giving a lower effective loading height. Choose a teletrailer for long, non-tall loads; choose a semi low loader when the load profile needs to be lower.
Can I use a flat trailer for container transport?
Yes, many flat trailers are fitted with twistlock connections for 20 and 40-foot containers. When purchasing, check whether the required container positions are present.
