Crane trailer for sale - trailer with loader crane

What is a crane trailer?

A crane trailer is a trailer – almost always a flat or semi low loader – fitted with a hydraulic loader crane (knuckle boom crane). The crane is typically mounted behind the gooseneck or mid-trailer and is hydraulically powered. The key advantage: you are not dependent on external crane trucks or forklifts on site.

At Xiffix we regularly stock crane trailers fitted with Fassi, Hiab, Kennis and Palfinger cranes – in light, medium and heavy configurations.

Technical features

  • Crane mounted on trailer (behind neck or mid-trailer position)
  • Lifting capacity: typically 10 to 100+ tonne-metres (depending on crane type)
  • Hydraulically powered via tractor unit or dedicated onboard pump
  • Operated via fixed panel or remote control
  • Loading floor available in flat or (semi) low loader configuration
  • Combinable with extendable loading floor

When to choose a crane trailer?

The crane trailer is the right choice when you work at locations where no external lifting equipment is available: construction sites, agricultural land, industrial premises or urban deliveries. The combination of transport and lifting capacity in a single vehicle saves time and cost.

Industries: construction, industry, infrastructure, agriculture, events, utilities.

When not to choose one?

If the crane is only needed at fixed locations and the vehicle is rarely on the move, a stationary crane or a separate mobile crane is more efficient. A crane on the trailer takes up load space and adds tare weight.

FAQ – Crane trailer

What lifting capacity does a crane on a trailer have?

Lifting capacity is expressed in tonne-metres (force × reach). Light crane trailers typically deliver 10–20 tm; heavy versions go up to 100+ tm. We are happy to advise you on the lifting capacity needed for your application.

How is the crane powered?

Most crane trailers are hydraulically powered via the PTO of the tractor unit or via a dedicated hydraulic pump on the trailer (with battery pack). An onboard pump has the advantage that you can operate the crane with the trailer uncoupled.

Does a loader crane need to be inspected annually?

Yes. Annual inspection of loader cranes (ALK inspection) is required under Dutch occupational health legislation. When purchasing from Xiffix, we check the inspection status and provide full transparency on the condition of the crane.

Can I buy a trailer without a crane from Xiffix and have one fitted later?

Yes, that is possible. We can refer you to specialist bodybuilders in our network. Bear in mind the tare weight of the trailer – the combination of trailer and crane must remain within legal axle load limits.
